Ginsters

Ginsters are makers of a wide range of pastry-based products, including Cornish pasties, sausage rolls, slices and other savoury baked goods. The company is based near Plymouth in Cornwall.

Most of the company's product range appears to contain hydrogenated vegetable oil. The entire product range and ingredients may be verified on its website: www.ginsters.co.uk.

We note that the ingredients list may sometimes specify "non-hydrogenated vegetable oils" (as on its sausage roll, in November 2004). This indicates that the company is aware of the health issues surrounding HVOs, and is happy to promote the point that non-hydrogenated are used, where appropriate.

However, the reality is that Ginsters products may be a significant source of trans fats in many peoples' diets.

We have requested the company to provide us with a statement of their policy on trans fats and hydrogenated oils.
