Youngs Bluecrest Seafood Ltd

Young's are well known for their breaded frozen fish fillets and "ocean pies" sold widely across the UK. The company does sell some products containing industrial trans fats but it has a policy to progressively remove them. It also has a policy to label trans fats, whether from industrial or natural sources.

Policy statement on trans fats

From Group Technical Director Stephen Parry, 28 April 2006.

Young's has a clear policy of removing trans fats from our products and has been implementing this for many months. Where we use hydrogenated oil we are progressively ensuring this is trans free and to provide clarity for our customers as we introduce new packaging we are listing trans fat / oil.

There are some products which do, however, contain naturally-occurring trans fat more particularly dairy products such as butter and cream which are used to deliver good quality and taste. We are progressively labelling the trans component in this as well.

To summarise therefore:

  1. We have a clear policy to remove where ever possible hydrogenated fats and oils from our food products.
  2. Where we do use hydrogenated fats/oil we are progressively moving to trans free.
  3. Our policies are to include clear labelling such that our consumers are fully informed.
  4. As we introduce new packaging we list trans fat/oil.
