Burton's Foods

Burton's Foods was formed in 2000 by the merger of Horizon Biscuit Company Ltd and Burton's Gold Medal Biscuits Ltd. It makes biscuits, confectionery and snack products, both branded and for own-brand re-sellers.

Products

Among Burton's products are Wagon Wheels and Maryland cookies - and we have just heard (15 August 2006) that these have been reformulated to exclude hydrogenated oil. This is the statement from Jaspal Chada, marketing director at Burton's Foods:

"We would like to clarify that we have removed all hydrogenated fats from Burton's Wagon Wheels and Maryland Cookies. At Burton's Foods we are committed to helping our customers to make informed choices about what they eat. We have taken practical initiatives to make information more available to our customers, like detailing all nutritional information and recommended serving sizes on our packs and via our website at www.burtonsfoods.com."

We have written back to enquire about their wider policy re hydrogenated oil and trans fats.
